About Diaspora Impact
CIC
Our story
Diaspora Impact CIC was founded with a vision to create lasting change in communities by improving access to mental health support, education, research, and wellbeing initiatives across the United Kingdom and Ghana and other African counties. Born from a deep understanding of the challenges faced by underserved communities, the organisation was established to bridge gaps in support systems while promoting collaboration between diaspora professionals, local institutions, and communities both at home and abroad.
We recognised that many individuals continue to face barriers to mental health care due to stigma, cultural misunderstandings, limited access to services, and systemic inequalities. In many developing countries, the migration of skilled professionals has also created gaps in healthcare, education, and research capacity. Rather than viewing this as a permanent loss, Diaspora Impact CIC believes in transforming “brain drain” into “brain gain” by encouraging skilled diaspora professionals to contribute their expertise through mentorship, teaching, collaborative projects, research, and community engagement.
Our work focuses on creating culturally responsive programmes that empower individuals and strengthen communities. Through mental health awareness campaigns, trauma-informed support, school-based resilience programmes, entrepreneurship training, webinars, creative arts initiatives, and professional exchanges, we aim to provide practical solutions that promote healing, resilience, and opportunity.
At Diaspora Impact CIC, we believe meaningful change happens when communities are empowered, voices are heard, and people work together with a shared purpose. Our mission is not only to raise awareness, but to inspire transformation, strengthen local capacity, and create healthier futures for generations to come.
What we believe
We believe that structured, ethical engagement transforms the dispersal caused by brain drain into opportunities for brain circulation and mutual benefit. By aligning with local priorities and adhering to global ethical standards, we ensure that every partnership sustainably strengthens health systems, enhances local research capacity, and creates measurable clinical and academic growth for both host institutions and visiting professionals.
Our Mission
To solve the problem of high stigma and a lack of cultural and mental health awareness within diaspora communities. Barriers to accessing mental health services include language, trust issues, and systemic racism. There is also increased isolation among migrants, refugees, and international students, alongside a shortage of culturally relevant mental health education for families and faith groups. The project aims to enhance mental health outcomes within diaspora communities by providing culturally sensitive education, trauma-informed support, promoting physical well-being through sports, and advocating for individuals and families. It offers customised training in mental health and well-being, as well as shared experiences, for vulnerable people and young individuals across Coventry and Warwickshire.
It seeks to build communities with equitable access to compassionate mental health support that is free from stigma, cultural barriers, and systemic exclusion. The project will be tailored to respect other cultures’ perspectives, languages, and lived experiences. It will develop local solutions and train community champions. The initiative aims to promote equitable access to mental health understanding and services by working with professionals, communities, and institutions. It will utilize creative arts, digital technologies, and research to raise awareness, foster resilience and hope, and support trauma recovery. The project will tackle systemic issues linked to mental health problems and social challenges within immigrant communities. Additionally, it will include a youth emotional resilience program focused on self-esteem and identity, stress management, peer pressure, healthy coping strategies, communication, and conflict resolution. The program will be delivered over two years, with three monthly reviews and an evaluation process to measure progress and expected outcomes.
Our Vision
We envision a future where mental well-being is treated as a universal human right rather than a luxury of the privileged. Our mission is to build a world where communities, both locally and globally, have equitable access to compassionate, high-quality mental health support that is entirely free from the shadows of stigma, cultural bias, and systemic exclusion. By dismantling the financial and structural barriers that have historically marginalized vulnerable populations, we aim to foster an inclusive environment where individuals feel seen, heard, supported, and empowered to thrive emotionally, socially, and economically. Through education, collaboration, advocacy, and community-driven initiatives, we strive to create lasting impact and promote healthier, more resilient communities for present and future generations.
